dos años vuelan

¡Qué mensaje recordatorio agradable de WordPress! Así, han pasado ahora dos años. Es difícil de creer.

Muchos días estoy un poquito sorprendida de que yo he continuado hasta este tiempo; otros días parece que acabo de empezar en esta jornada.

Estoy agradecida de que mi marido me animó a empezar a escribir. ¡He aprendido mucho en el proceso! También estoy muy agradecida por cada uno de ustedes que toma el tiempo para leer y comentar – Aprendo mucho de ustedes. Me han dado empatía y critica; han desafiado mis pensamientos; me dieron las gracias, se rieron y lloraron conmigo. Desconocidos se han convertido en amigos; los amigos lejanos sienten más cerca; amigos de hace mucho tiempo se han vuelto más queridos.

A menudo me sorprenden los visitantes de este blog – ¡ustedes visitan de todas partes del mundo! La mayor parte de los EEUU y México, pero también de lugares como India, Finlandia, Portugal, Hong Kong, Pakistán y Argentina (¡solo hoy!). Ustedes leen en inglés y español, y conectan la mayoría por Facebook, pero también de casi todos los demás foros de medios sociales.

Seguidores, visitas, posts y clics han más que duplicado en el último año. Estoy muy agradecida por la creciente audiencia e influencia. Lo considero un gran privilegio – uno que no tomo a la ligera – el compartir mis ideas con ustedes.

Los mensajes más visto este año pasado han sido:

today’s modern woman – pick any two! (“la mujer moderna de hoy en día – ¡escoge dos!” – una repetición del año pasado – probablemente debido a que se conecta a un Pinterest “pin”…)
la motivación y el ánimo (¿No es divertido que los posts más vistos son la mitad en inglés y la otra mitad en español?)
communication styles (“modelo de comunicación” – ¡Gracias a mis estudios de la maestría!)
lo que aprendo de una venta de garage (¡Sería bueno para mí volver a leer esto cada año!)

What a nice reminder message from WordPress! So, it’s been two years now. Hard to believe.

Many days I’m a bit surprised that I have kept it up this long; other days it seems like I just started on this journey yesterday.

I am grateful that my husband encouraged me to begin to write. I have learned so much in the process! And I am VERY grateful for each of you who take the time to read and comment – I learn a lot from you. You have empathized, criticized, challenged my thinking, thanked me, laughed with me, and cried with me. Strangers have become friends, distant friends feel closer, long-time friends have become dearer.

I am often amazed by the visitors to this blog – you visit from all over the world! Most from the US and Mexico, but also from places like India, Finland, Portugal, Hong Kong, Pakistan, and Argentina (today alone!). You read in English and Spanish, and you connect mostly from Facebook posts, but also from almost every other social media forum.

Followers, views, posts and clicks have much more than doubled in the last year. I am grateful for the growing audience and influence. I consider it a great privilege – one I don’t take lightly – to share my ideas with you.

why a blog?

Why a blog? I asked myself that question many times. Who would want to read something I wrote? There are so many wise, famous, funny, etc people who are writing blogs today… who am I to join the club? I think many people struggle with those same insecurities.

For a long time I fought against the idea. Finally it was my husband who talked me into it. I like to process personally what I am learning, talking with others, face-to-face if possible. Often, I have processed things with my husband, and he would say, “You should write that down”. I would answer him, “I don’t have time.” So, he spent various months – in secret – recording my thoughts and ideas. One day, he gave me the list and said, “Now I will help you start your blog.”

Now, without any excuse 🙂 , we began to chat about a theme, title, format, etc. Since I am starting a M.A. in Global Leadership through Azusa Pacific University, I decided to use the platform of a blog to process what I am learning – and not worry about if anyone else reads it or not…

I decided to use the theme Learning and Leading because those are issues that are relevant to my every day life. I am a leader by gifting and experience: the oldest of five children, a mother, the Director in many positions and the Co-Director with my husband in other positions. It is often not easy being a woman and a leader. I want to continue learning, especially about how God has created me and how I can grow to become the woman and the leader He has called me to be.

I chose the first word in the title of my blog, Maturitas, from the Latin word for “mature”. And I selected the verse of Ephesians 4:13 because it expresses my desire to grow continually and the process that God uses to bring us to maturity in His time. I wanted the “feel” of a Café because I would prefer to chat with you in a quaint cafe, drinking a delicious coffee, and enjoy a meaningful and lively conversation, face-to-face, about life’s challenges.

Since my reality won’t allow me to visit with you personally, I hope we can communicate through this blog… growing and maturing together. I would love for our conversation to be interactive… so please leave your comments and suggestions! I want to learn from you also! ¿por qué un blog?

¿Por qué un blog? Yo misma me hice la pregunta muchas veces. ¿Quién quiere leer algo que yo escriba? Hay tantas personas sabias, famosas, chistosas, etc quienes están escribiendo su blog… ¿quién soy yo para entrar a esta sociedad? Creo que muchas personas luchan con estas mismas inseguridades.

Por mucho tiempo luché contra la idea. Finalmente fue mi esposo quien me animó. Me gusta procesar lo que estoy aprendiendo personalmente, hablando con alguien, cara-a-cara, si es posible. Muy a menudo proceso estas cosas con mi esposo y me decía: “Debes escribirlo.” Yo le respondía: “No tengo tiempo.” Entonces, él pasó varios meses anotando – en secreto – mis pensamientos e ideas. Un día me los dio y me dijo: “Ahora te ayudo a empezar tu blog.”

Ya sin excusa 🙂 , empezamos a platicar de un tema, el título, el formato, etc. Ya que estoy empezando una M.A. (maestría) en Liderazgo Global con Azusa Pacific University, decidí usar la plataforma del blog para procesar lo que voy aprendiendo – no importa si alguien más lo lee o no…

Decidí usar el tema de Learning and Leading “Aprendiendo y liderando” porque son asuntos muy relevantes a mi vida ahora. Soy una líder por mis dones y por mi experiencia: soy la mayor de 5 hermanos, soy mamá, soy la directora en muchos puestos y la co-directora en otros junto con mi esposo. No es tan fácil ser una mujer y ser una líder. Quiero estar aprendiendo siempre, especialmente de cómo fui creada por Dios y cómo puedo crecer para convertirme en la mujer y la líder que Él me ha llamado a ser.

Escogí la primera palabra del título de mi blog, Maturitas, del latín de madurez. Y escogí el versículo Ephesios 4:13 porque expresa mi deseo de estar continuamente creciendo y el proceso de Dios para llevarnos a la madurez en Su tiempo. Pensé en la idea de un Café porque yo preferería estar contigo en un lindo café, tomando un rico café y disfrutando de una profunda y animada conversación cara-a-cara acerca de los desafíos de la vida.

Ya que mi realidad no me permita estar contigo personalmente, espero que podamos conversar de esta forma… creciendo y madurando juntos.
